Stories That Shaped Us Provider Reflections: Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in contributing to “Stories That Shaped Us: Provider Reflections.” Below are the submission guidelines to help you share your story effectively:


Content Guidelines


Story Focus:

  • Reflect on a patient or client you never forgot and the valuable lessons learned from your experience with them. The story can involve mental health, substance use, or a combination of both.

  • Aim for 400-700 words. The focus is on a brief but impactful account that engages readers.

  • Write in a reflective, honest, and conversational tone. Confidentiality is key please do not include any identifying information about patients/clients.


Structure:

  • Introduction: Briefly introduce the context and the patient/client interaction.

  • The Experience: Describe the situation or interaction that stood out.

  • What You Learned: Share the key takeaways or lessons.

  • In Retrospect: Reflect on what you might have done differently, if anything.

  • Closing Thought: Provide a final reflection, insight, or encouragement for other providers.


Submission Process:

  • Submit your story in Google Doc, Word (.docx) or PDF format.

  • Ensure the story protects patient/client privacy and follows any applicable guidelines or ethical practices.

  • Please submit your entry by the 12th of each month if you’d like to be featured in an upcoming edition (usually live by the 5th of the next month).

  • Include your name, title, and professional background with the submission.

  • A brief bio (1-2 sentences) is also welcome but not required.

When your submission is selected, you will receive an email confirmation of your live post once it is live. We will email you if we have any issues with your submission.


We greatly appreciate your willingness to share your experiences and insights. Your story will help others in the field grow and learn, creating a valuable conversation around lessons in patient care.
